FEB.27 ANTI- BULLYING DAY: To This Day Project

By Cathy H - 7:38 PM

I really loved this video and animations as well as the voiceover. It really made me think how many people are suffering as a result of taunting by others, I'm not saying everyone is equal or some other clique words. In some cases it's not true because everyone grows up surrounding by inequalities whether by family/economic background, personal traits or something that they can't chose to inherit like disabilities and the way they look. I didn't grow up with everything I wanted and the person I wanted to be- when I was little I often felt like a ugly duckling- some people grow out of this phase faster or some are stuck forever believing they will never amount to anything. To the people being bullied- there is no one to save you but yourself. Some days, week, months or even years are hard to make it through for everyone. But whomever is above, may it be the faith in your heart -never gives anything too much to handle. After all, everything comes with expansions and limitations. You can chose to have a stronger mentality after what you been through or continuously let the past and immediate circumstances torment you. Yes, people will be cruel, but unfortunately no amount of education will stop ignorant people without any intellectual capabilities to relate to themselves and others. The thing most people don't realize is that we're all interconnected- there is nothing to be "gained" by stepping on others- you will only further fall down the ladder. Whatever illusion of "separateness" people have is only a concept that drives them to emphasize those differences in their lives.

I think bullying happens because people are insecure about themselves. It's as if they become an outcast if they don't point out obvious flaws in other people. "Thank god I'm not like that" "I have friends unlike her" "Glad there's people on my side"- thoughts like that are there because we are insecure of being the very outcast we are afraid of. It has less to do with the victim because no one can chose the opinions people have on each other. I find it sad there are many child suicides from taunting in schools and people carrying on with this load inside them to their teens and adult years. It leaves a mark. I will never understand why some people feel good knowing the person they mindlessly taunted goes home at night having to deal with everything by themselves. That is a feeling of hell no one deserves to go through- especially when 10 year old children make a decision to hang themselves in a closet. The world is a lonely and hard enough place without that. After all, is a smile and nice words not better than  trying to boost your ego in that kind of negative way? In the end, no matter what kind of deformities, family backgrounds, bad deeds, pasts or circumstances people been in- they all deserve to have a peace of mind that they are guaranteed the equal opportunity to experience life fully. I think bullying is a violation of basic rights, and like this video says- remedies are not so easy as people believe. I wish for the world to be kinder and if its not possible to embrace other's differences, at least don't try to further perpetrate them.

You just do it. You force yourself to get up. You force yourself to put one foot before the other, and God damn it, you refuse to let it get to you. You fight. You cry. You curse. Then you go about the business of living. That’s how I’ve done it. There’s no other way."
